10 THINGS TO LOVE ABOUT SUMMER IN THE CITY

Summer…The time of the year in which we all look forward to, life is always better when the sun is shinning and i have 10 reasons to love summer that little bit more.

For some the City is just a concrete jungle, full of business suits and stuffy underground transport that leaves us feeling drained by the end of the day. However the city comes alive in the summer with the hustle and bustle of people and sight seers, everyone floods to the nearest greenery on their lunch breaks to bath in the rays of the occasional scorching day. So put your Shades on and lets get ready to go…

  • Roof Top Bars– London has some of the best rooftop bars around from the Kensington rooftop gardens to the Hilton Hotels. You are bound to find one within a tube ride from your house!

  • The Royal Parks– Beautiful in the summer and well maintained to get that little bit of greenery we all need once in a while. With a host of events throughout the summer to get you in the festival spirit.

  • British Pubs– There is a fast array of watering holes in london, in-fact you really are spoilt for choice. Many of which have beer gardens to accommodate the premises, which makes a great place to meet friends and work colleagues now That the days are longer.

  • Sport Events– Throughout summer London has a range of sporting events from running to Tough Mudder, whatever takes your fancy. Turnouts are in their thousands for many hosted by big brands such as Nike & Adidas.

  • Secret Cinema– Over the past few years secret cinema has exploded in London and is a great alternative to the usual evening out. It gives Londoners the chance to really get involved in the production, with the location being kept a secret each and every-time.
  • Street Parties– And i am not talking about Nottinghill…Londoners living local will know of these events which take place every year, and if your lucky enough to stumble upon one than you will be greeted with a wide range of local businesses, food, music, alcohol and entertainment for the day. Great fun and often street parties like Bermonsey will be child friendly.
  • Farmer Markets– Their are markets which have been around for decades in london, and they offer a very different alternative from your weekly shop at Tesco. They become incredibly busy at the weekends but have an amazing array of food & drink stools with a great atmosphere to top it off.
  • Boutique Cafe & Restaurants– The diversity of london is always well reflected in its food. If you wonder a little out of central you can find cute coffee & tea rooms and independent restaurants to die for. Nothing like afternoon tea to help you appreciate the finer things in life!
  • London Clubs– Need a vocation which doesn’t include drinking? Well London has a club for almost everything from reading to running you will find one which suits you. And what better time of year to get you out and about in the evenings and meeting new people.
  • Open Air Theatre– Culture, the backbone of london, and what better way to display this than theatre outside! Hosted at venues such as Shakespeare Globe. Summer has never looked so good.

Summer brings the City alive with a host of activities and things to do. Although The london lifestyle does not come without hard work and commitment first. For some great tips and advice on how to get ready for summer in the city you can contact us direct via email or phone.

How to be the Best Dressed Best Man…

It is that time of the year…YES its wedding season all of your beautiful friends and family have decided that its time to tie the Knot, is there enough days in the year? Nope because we all want a summer wedding! And that means you have to look the part SPECIALLY if you are the best man. It is your job to be the right hand man, and although the pressure is high to fulfil your duties it is also important that your suit does too. So i have put together a collection of wedding attire to put your mind at ease.

if you are unclear about dressing for a wedding here is a great little paragraph from GQ to help explain

“Morning dress” means single-breasted morning coat, striped trousers, shirt, tie and waistcoat (no exceptions). “White tie” means they’re kind of a big deal. “Black tie” means bow tie, unless the wedding is in LA. “Black tie optional” means opt for it. Cocktail means a dark suit with something of the night about it. “Formal” means suit, probably still dark (unless they really mean black tie – check). “Informal” means lose the tie. As a rule of thumb, overdressed is better than Accessories but don’t ever be more formal than the groom.

Remember if the wedding you are attending is abroad, try and go for a fablic like a linen suit so as to avoid over heating on the day.

Challenge Accepted

This year has been all about setting myself new challenges, pushing myself out of my comfort zone physically and mentally. i like to practice what i preach so the past few months i have been training hard for the two events i have coming up this month. The business i jointly run alongside my business partner encompasses healthy living, nutrition, exercise, beauty & fashion. It means that our clients have to push themselves to exercise regularly, set goals and achieve them and step outside the comfort zone to acknowledge style and trends to find a look which suits their new and improved figure. So in turn, the founders of http://www.fashionfitnessspecialists.com/ like to do the same.

This Month i have mixed fun with exercise, (which is always important) and will be taking part in the colour run this weekend. If you are wondering what this is then to make it simple…It is a 5k run in london where you get pounded with different coloured paint every 1k which you pass. It may not sound like fun to everyone, but i am quite looking forward to looking like a multi coloured mess at the finish line.

The second challenge is the women’s NIKE 10K, although to most 10k doesn’t sound like far and compared to a marathon it really isn’t, but for me it’s not about the distance it’s about running and achieving the best time i can. I am training everyday between 3-7 miles each time with one rest day. Luckily the weather is pleasant most days so its nice to be outside and occasionally i can rope someone in to join me. However i have faced some obstacles the past couple of months, which i am sure some of you can relate to like tiredness. Part of being a stylist means you are on your feet constantly, rarely do you have time to sit down so when i get home the prospect of a 4 mile run is at times difficult to comprehend. However you always feel better for having achieved your goal for the day. I am at the stage now where i want to lean out a little for the race so as to make myself lighter and quicker on my feet. So i am focusing on my diet the next couple of weeks for the race, incorporating lots of chicken, avocado nuts and high protein foods.

What challenges do you have lined up this year? i am thinking a hike next like the 3 peak challenge starting with mount Snowden. i shall keep you all posted…

Balancing Act.

There are many aspects of ones life, and finding that perfect balance can at times feel impossible. I am guilty of not always being able to make as much time as i would like with my closest and most dearest of friends over the years. Since starting up my own business http://www.fashionfitnessspecialists.com/ and driving my career forward certain areas of life have become harder to maintain. This is not to say that i do not think of my loved ones regardless. But the absence will always remind you of what you appreciate most about those you surround yourself with. There is some truth in the fact that the people you surround yourself with usually say a lot about you. Whether or not it is based on a purely judgemental basis, surrounding yourself with the right people who are like-minded, challenge you intellectually/creatively and support your achievements, (even better if they help your achievements progress) will be a positive addition to ones life. Although it’s often the case that we have only ourselves to blame for our mistakes or wrong paths walked, when you look around do you have the right people around you? It is often something we fail to see until you look outside the box.

It is said that London can be a very lonely place to live even with such a big population, but there are many meet-up groups such as ‘Meetup‘ and ‘Eventbrite‘ where you can meet individuals in similar lines of work where you can share common ground with. If you are freelance there is the ‘FREELANCE CLUB‘ which hold meet-up’s also, all can be found if you Google them and most work outside of london too.
